The Winans Camel was one of the most powerful freight engines of its time. Built to haul long coal trains, the Camel proved so effective that many of the engines survived in service for over 40 years! Ross Winans unique design proved well-suited to the twisting routes and tight curves of the early B&O. Reading and Lackawanna railroads.

Factory Direct Trains' new model is what is known as a medium furnace version. The B&O model is offered in two configurations, as delivered in 1854, with open cab and Winans unique smokestack design and the 1870s modernized version, with a diamond stack, glass-enclosed cab and headlight. The other railroads are as delivered.
